Possum's 14th Birthday

It was Possum's birthday last Wednesday. My sweet little baby girl has turned 14! As is our tradition, Possum chose the kind of birthday cake and birthday dinner she wanted. She asked for a chocolate cake with chocolate icing, and wanted chicken burgers for dinner.

Tuesday evening I mixed up the cake batter and then asked Possum which shape cake tin she would like me to use. She chose the square tin and the little star shaped tin.As you can see in the photo she also ended up with a round tin! I had made too much cake batter so I had to construct a triple layer birthday cake. I spent much of Wednesday morning working on the cake to try and make it look special. Kitcat thought it looked very yummy, but when HB came home early that day he chuckled and said it looked like the Taj Mahal!

Here's Possum with her birthday gifts.Possum already had her main birthday gift - a pair of sheepskin boots and a term's worth of ice skating sessions for her school sport - but she liked the fluffy purple pillow I made for her too.And she really, really liked this packet of Darrel-Lea goodies.
(That blue scarf knitted from feather-yarn was also a birthday gift.)Here she is investigating the contents of the bag Nano and Grandpap left here for her way back at Christmas (talk about organised! I had 6 of these bags hiding in my wardrobe since December. It was a relief to deliver the last one to the appropriate birthday child and regain some space in the WIR.)After the chicken burger dinner Possum had to pose with the birthday cake. (She liked it!)And she had to blow out the candles twice, once for the video and once for a photo. She did well to get nearly all 14 out in one breath!Possum had asked me to buy some sparklers, so after dessert we all went outside to play with them.Teddy, Mousie and Kitcat were apprehensive about holding these, but Possum, Dragon and Ducky enjoyed them very much.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Well, I now have to announce the winner of my guessing game. I am sorry (but not surprised) to say that no one guessed the correct meaning of HB. Some of you were on the right track ..... well, sort of...... okay, not really ..... actually? Not at all. Sorry.

So I put all your names in a bowl and asked Kitcat to choose one name.

Then I picked up all the names from the floor and put them back in the bowl, after she knocked it over in her eagerness to choose one, and asked her to pick one out.

Then I took the handful of names she had grabbed out of her hand and placed them back into the bowl, and asked her to pick out just one of them.

Then I had to chase her around the house because when she chose one name she decided to run away and not to give it to me.

Then when I caught her she put the piece of paper in her mouth and started chewing it.

When I persuaded her to spit it out I couldn't read the name.

So, I took all the other names out of the bowl, checked them against the names in the comments of that post, and finally concluded that the name Kitcat had pulled out of the bowl and then tried to eat was ............ RUBY!!!!!

Congratulations Ruby, please email me your address and I'll have your little surprise package on it's way to Central Queensland as soon as possible.

Thanks to everyone who played along and had a guess!

Happy Birthday Possum!

Nice cake. Cool gifts. Did you get a B-day kiss from everyone? Isn't that the tradition?

Okay, what does HB mean? Please don't leave me hanging?

@Michele: Yes, Possum did get the traditional birthday kisses from everyone (except Dragon) but I wasn't quick enough to photograph them all this time.

Sorry - the true meaning of HB will have to remain a mystery since no one guessed it.

That's too funny that she ate the winning name. With all that cake she ate the paper.

@Lauren: I did the name draw on Friday, not on Possum's birthday. But Kitcat often does this little 'eat it' trick, especially if it's something her sisters are trying to take away from her. (They don't want it after she's chewed on it.)

Happy Belayed birthday to Possum.
It's the first chance I had to check my google reader ... today was our July 1st birthday boys' party.

I quite like her presents myself.

The cake was super.I bet you have had alot of practice.

Happy birthday to Possum! What a wonderfully special cake and lots of very thoughtful gifts.
Feel a bit tricked about the HB thing. Man of mystery, hmm?

Happy Birthday to Possum!

Hmmm, you are a sneaky woman, keeping HB to yourself.

You'll have to do this contest again and maybe I can try to guess as well :)
